Title: "Incidences" vs "incidents"
Post by: Kiwi on April 29, 2012, 05:22:52 AM
Interesting article and a recent letter of Neil Armstrong there. :P http://io9.com/5905376/how-much-of-the-moons-surface-did-the-apollo-11-astronauts-actually-explore (http://io9.com/5905376/how-much-of-the-moons-surface-did-the-apollo-11-astronauts-actually-explore)

From the article: "Read more about the first incidences of lunar loping..."

Dunno if this is the normal style in the US, but in recent years I've wondered why people have written "incidences" when they mean "incidents."  Both my British- and American-English dictionaries show that the two words have very different meanings.

Seems a correct usage in context to me. But then, I am not a cunning linguist.
