Title: Gerald Carr, Skylab 4 Astronaut, passed away.
Post by: apollo16uvc on August 26, 2020, 04:11:00 PM
Skylab 4 Astronaut Gerald Carr passed away today ):
A pity all these pioneers saw nothing become of the manned space program beyond LEO. Instead they saw it stagnate for half a century.
Its a disgrace to the risks they took.

Soon we'll only have historians talk about this golden era. No more astronauts. No more engineers. No more ground personnel.

Very sad and depressing.

A lot of astronauts from many countries have worked to surpass the achievements of the Skylab program over the years.  So quite a lot as come of the risks they took.  An international space station, four times the mass and nearly three times mass of Skylab the continuously crewed for more than 20 years.  Crews routinely staying more than twice as long as his mission, and in one case five times longer.
