Some cheery reading for you all...
« on: April 20, 2018, 02:53:29 AM »
I have some things going on at the moment, and to try and deal with them I have been blogging.

As usual with this things, you need to start from the bottom article and work upwards.

If my patience seems stretched at times, this explains it.

Hopefully it will entertain and inform :)

Oh fack.  >:(
Sorry to hear of this (how trite these words sound, but the feeling is there). I'm wishing you the very best with this disease.

Yeah it''s difficult know what to say  - I've been there myself!

This isn't a bit of sympathy whoring by the way,  it''s just my way of dealing with it, and people seem to like what I've been doing so I thought I'd share to a wider audience!

It's a bloody good bit of wordsmithing, by the way. Get it sent in to a national newspaper...once youve beaten this thing there is a journalist role waiting for you somewhere!

As one who recently had to deal with the same thing I can empathise with you. I had a particular difficulty in that I was just in the process of changing jobs and had given notice. My, then employers basically brought forward my notice period with no pay and my new employers baulked at the thought of employing me. Fortunately I argue a good point and with a few threats of legal action I managed to get it sorted.

But I am through my own scare and in full remission, I am still in the 5 year check up period. But if there is anything you wish to talk about, you have my contact details.

I feel for you as I am undergoing radiation treatments for prostate cancer for the next two months.  I have an optimistic outlook so I'm not in the dumps as it were.  We'll just see how everything turns out.

All the best OBM :D

I agree with Zakalwe, that is some fine writing :D

So I did.
And it was.

I might be just starting on a similar adventure. During the last three-monthly checkup, doctor took a bit longer than usual studying the latest blood-test results and said he'd better have a word with the hospital and mentioned "biopsy."

Two days ago a letter arrived and I burst out laughing at one paragraph: "We assess all patients so those who are most in need are seen first. Your condition has been assessed as urgent priority, and based on this you will receive an appointment within four months."  ;D

Gotta pity those poor sods whose cases are not urgent!

It's not a big deal to me because I've had regular dealings with the medical profession all my life, and in 1983, due to a whiplash injury when playing rugby in 1963, my health was becoming so bad that I gave up on doctors and their drugs, which often made me worse, and fully expected to be dead before the end of 1987.

Long story short, as a last resort I tried fringe healers and fortunately picked some good ones. They gave me back a life. The doctors and specialists had only ever treated the symptoms of my injury, whereas a chiropractor, followed by New Zealand-trained osteopaths and a brilliant naturopath, treated the causes of all the symptoms, which were displaced vertebrae and the effects which they produced. I could see the problems in the chiroprator's x-rays.

However, it proved to be a bit late and a severe case of chronic fatigue hit in 1989 and I've been a full-time invalid ever since. The good news is, since late last year the chronic part of the fatigue seems to be going away at last, so it's more a case of occasional bursts of acute fatigue nowadays. Winter will tell.

Still, ya gotta die of something! I'm 69 now and there's still a chance it might be just old age for me. Yahoo!

Best wishes, OBM.

Jings!! (As they say up my way.)  Best of luck with this OBM, and we'll all, I'm sure, be thinking of you and crossing various appendages.

I have to agree with everyone on the quality of your writing - "Bloody brilliant!", to quote Ron Weasley  ;D  It had me alternating between  laughter and the verge of tears, and I think you should definitely go for the biking top with "I have cancer" on it, just to rub it in when you pass people...

Take care!

Both my wives had cancer.  Ex had thyroid cancer; a picnic compared to 2nd wife's cervical cancer.  Both are cancer free years later after surgery/chemo/rad.  All I can offer is my sympathy and hope your doctors are blunt/aggressive and your family encouraging/supportive.

I don't know how to deal with things like that; I'm pretty hopeless in that regard. I hope things work out for you in the best possible way... and I agree that your blog is incredibly well written. Are you a writer? If not, why not?

As a child I had two choices - go outside and get beaten up or read books. I read books.

It must run in the family - my brother writes crime fiction of the type you buy in airports to read on holiday (his own description). His original profession is the law, and the interpretation and dissection of the written word is as important there as it is in my original Earth sciences training. In my current job if any written material is required I am the one who they get to do it :D

I wish I had some encouraging, helpful words for you, OBM, but unfortunately I don't. Cancer has been the bane of my family's existence. I haven't gotten it yet (knock on wood) but I've watched my loved ones fight it. Cancer is a bitch, and if I could I would beat it to death with my own two hands.

DO NOT, feel shame for any reaction you have to dealing with it. You are going to handle it the way you need to.

If there is anything I can do, don't hesitate to ask.
