The Hoax Theory / Re: What becomes of old 'friends'..

No sweat, I understand. Those guys can make you a little quick on the draw, for sure.

I probably shouldn't be using the Cornelius Crewe handle, I honestly only set it up as an alternate account because I had enough of Taffy spouting off about running Apollo defenders off when I know full well how he accomplishes that, seeing as how he blocked and removed posts from my DD Brock account.

In the meantime, however, Dolores O'riordan of the Cranberries had passed away, and for some reason that really affected me. I'm not the type to mourn celebrities, but her death hit me like a ton of bricks. I ended up using the Cornelius Crewe account to post on a LOT of Cranberries related videos, and I've kinda stuck with it. Cornelius Crewe is an old handle I used to sign artwork with, and it felt good to be using it again.

Sorry for the long winded posts.

On topic, beware Louse has another fuel cell rant up. Apparently NASA and the gubmint have been lying since the 1850's about fuel cells because the truth is you can use simple water in them with a little metal and electricity to produce hydrogen and oxygen. At least I think that's what his latest drunken rant was about. Oh, and apparently we've been beaten again.

Only open if you can bear incurable idiocy.

hey DD - sorry about this misunderstanding. I didn't recognise your screen name and took the comment the wrong way. Once I saw what you were posting, I knew you were one of the 'good guys', had misinterpreted your post and removed by own reply.

Much apologies!

Cool, but I think the Payload Faring is going to run into difficulties at Max Q

He did that with no reference, looks a bit like the Jaxa rocket.
Claiming a country is responsible for launching a rocket to space merely because it was launched from their land mass is rather like claiming a movie was made by the country of the filming location, e.g. The Lord of the Rings films are American films (not NZ films as some of my countrymen like to claim) even if it was filmed here, and even if the director was a Kiwi.
This was the point I was trying to make in response to your initial post claiming New Zealand was the 11th country.

Except that the launch wasn't just hosted in this country. The drive, the expertise, the aerospace engineering and the "rocket-science" are all local. The Rutherford Engines with their ground-breaking 3D printed parts, as well as the concept of using electric DC motors for turbo pumps was all the brainchild of New Zealander Peter Beck (Rocket Lab CEO) who founded the company in 2006 with seed finance from Mark Rocket (yes, that is is real name) and launched their first non-orbital flight into space in 2009.

I don't see why you are trying to pour cold water on this achievement (unless, of course, you're an Australian, then it would perfectly understandable, there would be nothing new in that)

Late to the party, but that is awesome. The boy is a problem solver, that's good stuff!

I'm very jealous of the Lego Saturn V, too.
The Reality of Apollo / Re: Digitizing NASA data tapes

Tape: NASA Automatic Data Processing 4141 has arrived.

Update written by contact:

The tape arrived today--the photos don't do it justice(?).    The reel is chipped and absolutely filthy--it looks as if it spent the past 50 years on the floor of someone's garden shed.
At this point, it's difficult to tell how much of the tape is intact.   This is my plan:
 1.  Bake the tape for a day or two
 2.  Run it through the cleaning machine a couple of times to remove as much of the dirt as possible
 3.  Clean the reel and re-spool the tape
 4.  Try to see if there's anything readable
 How does this sound?"

"Well, I unreeled a bit of the tape; I didn't find a BOT marker, so I suspected that the first few meters of the tape are history
Here's what I see when I look at the tape:
9-track, not 7!  If the date on the tape is correct, this means it was produced on an IBM System/360, as almost nobody else had working 9 track drives then.    Even in 1965, IBM was shipping the first S/360s out with 729 7-track drives.   It took them awhile to get the bugs out of the 2400 series drives.
Testing the very beginning of this very wrinkled tape shows data on the first few cm, so if there was a leader, it's been long gone.
I'll bake and clean the tape and attach a BOT marker about 3 m in and see what I can see with my 9-track drives.  This may take a few days."

He hotlinked images from my site and tried to use them in his articles on infowars. I don't like that (my site now prevents it), so I changed the images in the links to one of a truck stop. It just so happened that the truck stop was the same one that featured in one of his own youtube videos (the house details were clearly visible in the video, wasn't hard to track it down) where he describes what his business plans are for the place and how he's doing it up.

He then got very defensive and claimed this was a direct threat to him. It was no such thing. In this latest rambling drunken waffle he now claims it wasn't his house but that it belongs to a 'friend'.

He's welcome to his own sewer. I know he's lying, and so does he.
