Title: Apollo 15 EVA 3
Post by: mesonparticle on October 12, 2019, 11:19:19 AM
Hi all,

I've been searching around trying to find the most complete TV transmission from Apollo 15 EVA 3. I'm interested particularly the EVA around Station 9a. I've found the following playlist on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA6E9CD8C09BA224F, but it is split into parts and not all of the dialogue is included.

Does anyone happen to know where I might be able to find a more complete record of the recording of Apollo 15 EVA 3?

Thanks!

Spacecraft Films? An expensive option, but it might be available at your local library.

Have you looked at ALSJ?

I wondered this, but the Apollo 15 set does come up on second hand sites more cheaply than others.

Have you looked at ALSJ?

https://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a15/video15.html

I wanted to try and find it as one huge video, but this is a good start, thanks :)

UPDATE: Sadly, the clip I'm interested in, which is here: https://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a15/a15.rille.html#1653904 I cannot get to convert correctly. At least I can't get the audio to come out on the clip. Does anyone else get the audio for this clip when they try and play it?

It works fine when I play it. What is the issue exactly?

I converted it to MP4 using VLC, and the sound is significantly more shrill.

Thanks Allan, I've opened it in VLC and converted it now. The Mac was doing a crap job of trying to do so! <3

I have opened all five that are listed in the ALSJ with Real Player and the only aspect is a background "scratchy" sound.  Tis is probably an artifact of the transmission, but all the audio is there.  If you look at LSJ it links all the audio with images and videos just look at:
Journal Text: 165:02:51
for example.

Playlist does not exist.

Copyright strikes because audio was used in movie or song? fight the strike and maybe it will be fixed in a month.

Yep, worldwide block by "INA - Institut National de l'Audiovisuel".
Interesting that they claim Apollo footage.

My latest YT video just got monetised via a BS copyright claim. Patrick Moore's question at the Apollo 11 press conference must have been sampled into a song somewhere. I always fight these claims, and I always win. But yeah, it can take weeks.

Ok, its probably way too late now but here is all of EVA 3:

A lot of it is audio only but it should all be there.
Finally got the copyright strike lifted....

Feels like this stuff should be public domain. Doesn't seem right that buying DVDs is the only way to watch full high quality Apollo TV.

ALSJ is great but dated, RealPlayer belongs in 2004. Surprising there is no official "NASA History" YouTube channel or whatever with the full broadcasts.

I think it is in public domain, there just isn't a high quality online source for it....

Same with the 16mm, spacecraftfilm offers like 2tb of ultra-high bitrate HD scans of the 16mm footage but its 500 dollars... tempting to buy it and provide it for free online. I absolutely despise compression artefacts seen in many online sources!

High quality digitizing of film and tape is expensive. Good telecine machines (Not the shitty ones) Are +10k
