Netherlands in 1928: Amateur 16mm film
« on: May 22, 2020, 09:04:23 AM »

In the 1920s, there was an American family who could afford a lot of 16mm film.

They have made many recordings during trips through Europe and America, including in the Netherlands.

From that collection I have acquired the original 16mm recordings in the Netherlands.

With the following index:

Holland
The Hague.
Scheveningen.
The Peace Palace.
Hotel Des Indes.
Zuider Zee.
Island of Marken.
Voledam.
Dairy and Cheese Farm Amsterdam.

This is going to be something special when put on YouTube.

Indeed, you do great work.

Similarly, there is a trove of early color film from the 1939 World's Fair.  Hours of it.  I think it's available in the Prelinger Archive.  Back in the day, I horked it all at the highest possible resolution because I was one of those guys who had access to tons of disk space and network bandwidth.  I made it available to all the prop, set, and costume designers in our area for reference.

The film will be scanned on a Müller HDS+, at the dutch company where they are made. I visited them once. WHen this virus stuff eases down I will give them an other visit to deliver this and some WWII films.

4K scan saved as ProRes444.

Huge filesizes, but so much headroom for editing.

They're currently scanning three big NASA 16mm reels for me and an observatory museum.

I made a quick and dirty video of the projected film with my DSLR.

Will be posting short samples of these.
